At Appalachian State University my major will be Health Promotion which is an online bachelor’s program through their distance education department. Being in a distance education program will allow me to continue to live in my current city with my family and friends. Appalachian State University is a four year co-educational university established in 1899. Appalachian State University is located in Boone, North Caroline. This is only an hour away from my home, so traveling to campus will not be an issue if need be. Appalachian has a beautiful campus in the mountains, and has various events for the student body.
Appalachian has wonderful student services. The department staffs are always very helpful and friendly and they have great financial aid advisors. Appalachian offers tutoring, placement service, health service, women's center, day care, counseling, services for students with disabilities, and health insurance. They have large library with a knowledgeable staff. Appalachian also will help you look for a job before and after graduation. Appalachian State University’s graduation rate, within four years, is 87%.
Each credit hour plus fees is $144.50 at Appalachian for in-state students. I will not have to pay for housing or insurance because I already have my own insurance. My cost per semester will depend on the amount of credit hours I take. If I take 12 to 18 credit hours per semester that puts my cost at $1734 to $2601 each semester. The advantages to attending Appalachian State University are that it is close to my home. I love the surrounding area, and the cost is reasonable. Appalachian is also very accommodating to transfer students. Transfer students make up 32% of the student body. The disadvantage is that since I will be attending online I will miss out on all the events held on campus.
